＜p＞Lockheed’s P-38 Lightning was a unique aircraft, even on the drawing board. When the prototype XP-38 first flew in January 1939, it was the fastest fighter plane of its day. It also possessed the longest range and had the heaviest armament of any fighter. Each subsequent version improved upon the preceding one. Early versions of the Lightning faced significant operational issues. British fuels in the United Kingdom had some incompatibilities with the P-38’s exhaust-driven turbo supercharged engines. In all theaters, the early Lightnings dealt with high-speed compressibility issues and chronic engine cooling problems.＜/p＞ ＜p＞The compressibility and engine cooling issues were overcome with the late Lightning variants, first delivered to the U. S. Army Air Forces in August 1943. These aircraft were the most refined and definitive P-38s. They played no small role in the successful conclusion of World War II by the Allies, especially in the Pacific Theater.＜/p＞ ＜p＞In 1998, Detail & Scale published two books on the P-38 Lightning. These publications were very popular but have long been out of print. This publication is P-38 Lightning in Detail and Scale, Part 2. Part 1 (Detail and Scale Series Volume 18) focuses on the XP-38 prototype through the P-38H and all associated photographic reconnaissance variants. The range of their war-related work was extraordinary. They helped gather military intelligence, pinpointed possible social weaknesses in enemy nations, and contributed to the army's regional Pocket Guide booklets. They worked for dozens of government agencies, including the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the Office of War Information. At a moment when social scientists are once again being asked to assist in military and intelligence work, David H. Price examines anthropologists' little-known contributions to the Second World War. Anthropological Intelligence is based on interviews with anthropologists as well as extensive archival research involving many Freedom of Information Act requests. Price looks at the role played by the two primary U.S. anthropological organizations, the American Anthropological Association and the Society for Applied Anthropology (which was formed in 1941), in facilitating the application of anthropological methods to the problems of war. He chronicles specific projects undertaken on behalf of government agencies, including an analysis of the social effects of postwar migration, the design and implementation of OSS counterinsurgency campaigns, and the study of Japanese social structures to help tailor American propaganda efforts. Price discusses anthropologists' work in internment camps, their collection of intelligence in Central and South America for the FBI's Special Intelligence Service, and their help forming foreign language programs to assist soldiers and intelligence agents. Evaluating the ethical implications of anthropological contributions to World War II, Price suggests that by the time the Cold War began, the profession had set a dangerous precedent regarding what it would be willing to do on behalf of the U.S. government.

Although it introduces concepts such as race and racism, otherness, Orientalism and Islamophobia, which may be familiar to the majority of readers, in this manuscript they serve the purpose of a comparative analysis which has not been done on the subject to date. The manuscript analyzes the thematic distribution of the articles, as well as the definitions, metaphors and stereotypes used, thus presenting a complete and diverse image of Muslims along with the similarities and differences in the thinking patterns employed by Bulgarians and British on the subject and expressed in the respective mainstream media. In this respect the manuscript fills a void in the scholarly literature on the ways the media discourses in two very different countries present the image of a religious group. Here we can even talk about the existing divide between East and West and the changing perception of the religious Other fostered by the general digitalization and free flow of information.＜/p＞ ＜p＞As English is an international language it undeniably makes access to information easier, however, there are not many culture specific studies presenting the current state of a problem or the analyses on that particular topic (the image of Muslims) in that international medium. Therefore, the manuscript aims at introducing English speaking scholars, students, media people, and generally everyone interested in the topic, to the Bulgarian way of seeing, depicting and talking about Muslims. As stated above, the manuscript draws parallels between the language used by the Bulgarian and the British media, thus providing a similar starting point as the majority of the potential readers are probably more familiar with the latter.
