【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Wonderful World That Almost Was A Life of Peter Hujar and Paul Thek【電子書籍】[ Andrew Durbin ]

The cinematic, never-before-told story of two intimately entangled artists who redefined queer art.

When Paul Thek met Peter Hujar in the winter of 1956 in Coral Gables, Florida, a slow-simmering connection began to burn. Thek, twenty-three and living in Miami, was handsome and itching to make it as a painter; in the twenty-two-year-old Hujar, a shy, sensual photographer, he’d found a kindred spirit. By 1960, they were dating and living in New York, beginning decades of sex, love, competition, and reconciliationーan entanglement that changed American art forever.

Surrounded by a robust creative scene populated by Susan Sontag, Andy Warhol, Fran Lebowitz, John Waters, and David Wojnarowicz, Thek and Hujar’s profoundly influential careers, from the early 1960s through the late 1980s, differed as much as the men themselves. The unpredictable and often overlooked Thek crafted visceral installations and sculptures, while Hujar, celebrated and sociable, took penetrating portraits of his world, queer and otherwise. Yet even at their most estranged, and even after their deaths from AIDS, both men were united by a pursuit of liberationーfrom artistic and sexual limits, from anything short of changing the world.

Andrew Durbin’s The Wonderful World That Almost Was unravels, for the first time, the intertwined stories and work of two boundaryburning, paradigm-tilting, never more relevant American artists. Weaving together deft art criticism with moving portraits of both men's inner lives, and assembled with exhaustive research, Durbin’s book is an ode to a lost but still-living worldーand two men who defined it.

Thoughts and questions about "The Mother" fill my heart, occupy my brain, and inhabit my spirit. There are so many "whataEUR"ifs" and "should've," "would've," "could'ves." Lots of us wonder who we were. A few know and are proud of who we are. Then there are those of us who dream of who and what we want to be. The title of this Book was chosen to be what it is because I'm empathetic towards those that are less fortunate than me. It has nothing to do with possessions and even less to do with locations. It (to me) has everything to do with messages. Ones that need to be said and heard. Not just from me, by me, or for me, but "us." I'm speaking from the perspective of individuals who do not have a voice. Males, females, young, old, aware, mentally asleep, strong, and struggling. For those who think their spiritual requests are shouted loudly but still go unheard. There are so many things that need to be said to so many people and this is just the start. To those, these, and my people...God hears you. Lord, guide my mind, my pen, and my mouth. Use me however you see fit.

There is great wisdom to learn from trees, and when we connect intimately with them, we can deepen our spiritual lives and grow in the understanding that all beings are part of the fabric of the holy.

There's something about a majestic redwood, the sweet pink blossoms of a cherry tree in spring, or even a scrawny little pine that moves us in ways we don't fully comprehend. Trees have much to offer as soul friends, and their millennia of growth and loss provides deep wisdom, if we pay attention. The Spiritual Wisdom of Trees encourages us to revel in the beauty and wonder of trees as they increase our capacity to bear witness to loss and grief and model adaptation and resilience. Integrating science and spirituality, coauthors Beth Norcross and Leah Rampy explore the knowledge held within the living world of trees and planted within each of us.

Drawing on extensive experience in both forest ecology and spirituality, Norcross and Rampy invite us into a deep mutual relationship with trees, whose wisdom provides comfort, resilience, guidance, and hope during these challenging times.

Expanding on their popular six-week video course offered through The Center for Spirituality in Nature, Norcross and Rampy offer us guidance and practices based on their experiences leading walks, retreats, and pilgrimages for over two decades. Having witnessed the profound healing and restorative power of trees, they offer us the wisdom of trees as wordless ministers to weary souls. When we learn the ecology of the forest and how to be present to the trees, our eyes are opened to the awe and wonder of our world, deepening our sense of sacred oneness.

The Center for Spirituality in Nature

The Center for Spirituality in Nature provides opportunities for deepening spirituality through nature and for nurturing loving relationships with the Earth. Through spiritual re-awakening, re-grounding and re-orientation, we mindfully participate in the healing of the Earth community of which we are called to be a loving part. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Quiet as a Feather, Loud as a Poem The Story of Emily Dickinson【電子書籍】[ Sarah Michaels ]

What can a quiet life teach us about bold thinking? In a small room in Massachusetts, a woman wrote nearly 1,800 poems-most of them never seen until after she was gone. Her name was Emily Dickinson, and though she rarely left her home, her words have traveled across the world.

This engaging book introduces readers ages 7 to 12 to the life, mind, and creative spirit of one of America's greatest poets. Through curious questions, deep feelings, and the magic of noticing small things, Emily turned ordinary moments into something unforgettable. Birds, trees, shadows, hope, silence-she found poetry in all of it. And she did it in her own way, with no interest in fame or approval.

Kids will discover how someone who seemed quiet could be filled with courage, and how staying true to yourself-even when others don't understand-can lead to extraordinary things. With a warm, conversational tone and a clear focus on the emotional heart of her story, this book invites young readers to think, wonder, and perhaps even start writing their own poems.

Perfect for thoughtful kids, curious minds, and anyone who's ever felt different, this is a story about creativity, bravery, and the quiet kind of power that lasts.

We are full of the power of the Holy Spirit. Let me tell you something about the Holy Spirit! Before Jesus Christ went to heaven, before his ascension to heaven, he said to his disciples, Don't go out and preach yet! He said, Wait for what the father promised (the Holy Spirit to come into your life). He told them, Don't leave Jerusalem; stay there and don't preach until the Holy Spirit comes into your life. Then he said to them, You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes.

Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth."

What is power? The word translated as power in the New Testament is the Greek word "Dunamis." It means the ability to effect a change. It is wonder-working ability or power. It is miracle-working ability. That means an ability to do the impossible. It refers to an ability to perform outstanding and amazing miracles and wonders.

Jesus said to them, Wait until that power comesーthe ability to do the impossible. A supernatural ability. It is the creative ability of God. You need to have the creative ability of God. The scripture tells us that he created all things through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Life is faith. Faith can never be negative. Faith, always be positive. Faith brings good results. Faith always says "yes!" Faith can never say no! Faith says yes when everything says no! Faith encourages when everything discourages. Faith keeps you moving when all life is no longer there. Faith says yes when you have been abandoned. Faith is life, and life is faith. Without faith, nobody can survive.

The scripture says in the book of 1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold of the eternal life to which you were summoned and [for which] you confessed the good confession [of faith] before many witnesses."

Have you ever found yourself standing at the crossroads of who you are, where you came from, and where you’re headed? If so, you’re in good company. "Echoes of the Ancestors: A Path Through Post-Colonial Identity" is an invitation to journey through the tangled, vibrant web of heritage and history that shapes us allーespecially those living in the aftermath of colonialism. This book isn’t just a personal memoir; it’s a tapestry woven from countless voices, stories, and experiences that echo across generations. From the first page, you’ll be swept into evocative narratives and lyrical reflections that explore what it means to carry the weightーand the wonderーof ancestral legacy. Each chapter is a thematic exploration, guiding you through Africa’s historical roots, the seismic disruptions of colonial rule, and the ongoing quest for self-discovery and cultural revival. What sparked this exploration? It began with a yearning to understand my own roots, to trace the footsteps of those who came before me, and to confront the colonial shadows that still linger. The journey hasn’t been easyーtraditional values often clash with the relentless tide of modern influences, and the scars of history run deep. Yet, within this struggle lies resilience, community, and the unbreakable spirit of those determined to reclaim authenticity. This book is more than a chronicle of the past; it’s a call to introspection. I want you, the reader, to question the narratives that have shaped you, to celebrate the beautiful complexities of your identity, and to find connection in shared stories.

Outback Australia: A Vast and Untamed Wilderness

Outback Australia is one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landscapes on Earth. Stretching across most of the country’s interior, the Outback is a vast, remote, and often harsh environment that embodies the true spirit of Australia. Characterized by its arid deserts, rugged mountain ranges, ancient rock formations, and sparse population, the Outback remains largely untouched by modern civilization. It is a land of breathtaking beauty, cultural significance, and remarkable wildlife.

Geography and Climate

The Outback covers around 70% of Australia’s landmass but is home to less than 5% of its population. It spans multiple states and territories, including Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, and the Northern Territory. The landscape is incredibly diverse, featuring vast deserts like the Simpson Desert, the red sands of the Gibson and Great Victoria Deserts, and the rocky ranges of the MacDonnell and Flinders Ranges.

The climate of the Outback is extreme, with scorching summers where temperatures often exceed 45°C (113°F) and cold winters that can bring freezing nights. Rainfall is sporadic, and droughts are common, making life in this region challenging for both humans and animals. Despite its harsh conditions, the Outback supports a surprising array of plant and animal life, including eucalyptus trees, spinifex grass, kangaroos, dingoes, and a variety of reptiles.

Cultural Significance and Indigenous Heritage

The Outback holds deep cultural significance for Australia’s Indigenous peoples, who have lived in the region for over 60,000 years. Aboriginal groups such as the Anangu, Arrernte, and Pitjantjatjara have a profound connection to the land, with Dreamtime stories explaining the creation of natural landmarks.

One of the most famous Outback sites is Uluru (Ayers Rock), a massive sandstone monolith that is sacred to the Anangu people. Nearby, Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) is another significant geological and spiritual site. Rock art, found in places like Kakadu National Park and the Kimberley region, provides insight into ancient traditions and beliefs. The Outback remains a place where Aboriginal culture continues to thrive, despite the challenges of modernity.

Life in the Outback

Life in the Outback is unlike anywhere else in the world. Small towns and cattle stations are scattered across the region, with many residents relying on agriculture, mining, or tourism for their livelihood. Stations (ranches) in the Outback are among the largest in the world, with some covering areas larger than entire European countries.

Due to the remoteness of many communities, services such as healthcare and education are often delivered through innovative means. The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides medical care to those in isolated areas, while the School of the Air allows children to receive lessons via radio and internet.

Tourism and Adventure

The Outback attracts adventurers and travelers seeking an authentic Australian experience. Iconic destinations include Alice Springs, a gateway to Uluru and Kings Canyon, and Coober Pedy, an opal-mining town where people live underground to escape the extreme heat. The Gibb River Road in Western Australia and the Oodnadatta Track in South Australia offer rugged off-road adventures, while the Birdsville Track is famous for its remote beauty.

Whether exploring ancient rock formations, meeting Indigenous communities, or simply marveling at the vast, star-filled night sky, the Outback is a place of mystery, wonder, and resilience. It is the heart of Australia, where history, nature, and culture converge in a spectacular, untamed wilderness
