Dating from 1966, '67 and '68, all four were produced by the label's owner, Nat Joseph. Imlach was a formidable live entertainer and his popularity spread to wider Europe and the US. Such was Imlach's standing that musicians such as Billy Connolly, John Martyn, Dick Gaughan and Christy Moore openly acknowledged the influence and schooling he had given them. Despite his tragic death in a 'plane crash in 1964, he was nevertheless able to rack up nearly 50 hits during his lifetime and became one of the most influential personalities in country music in the post-war era. This great-value 80-track 3-CD set comprises the A & B sides of all his singles from his recording debut for the Macy's label in 1949 through to 1962, and includes his recordings for the Abbott and RCA labels during those years, plus a duet performance with Ginny Wright released on the Fabor label. It naturally features all his 37 pop and country hits from the era, including the No. 1s "Mexican Joe", "Bimbo", "Billy Bayou", "Four Walls" and the international smash hit "He'll Have To Go", which provided his UK chart breakthrough in 1960. Covering, as it does, the first 15 years or so of his career, it charts the development of his style and sound during an era when country music was becoming more consciously commercial, and experienced the impact of the rock 'n' roll explosion in the mid-'50s, following it through into the early years of a decade when he very much flew the flag for country music as the British Invasion brought about more musical changes. It's a fine showcase for one of the genre's most enduring stars.Jim Reeves - widely known as "Gentleman Jim" - was one of the most successful and important country artists of the 1950s and early '60s, his rich, velvet voice bringing a unique sound and style, which was in the vanguard of the "new Nashville" sound, as the music headed away from honky-tonk fiddles and steel guitars as introduced strings and backing choruses, helping to move the genre towards the pop mainstream. They recorded a song called "Do The Bop", which through the input of American Bandstand producer and presenter Dick Clark became "At The Hop", which gave them a US chart debut at No. 1 to establish one of the memorable and iconic musical landmarks of the rock 'n' roll era in 1957. They went on to have several more hits over the next five years before the British Invasion eclipsed their career. This 35-track 2-CD set comprises the entirety of the recorded output during this core era of their recording career, featuring as it does all their A and B sides for the ABC-Paramount, Swan, Guyden and UK Top Rank labels during these years - remarkably, they did not release any albums during this time. It naturally includes their eight hits from these years, among them their No. 1 "At The Hop" along with another classic "Rock 'n' Roll Is Here To Stay", which was adopted by '70s rock 'n' roll revival band Sha-Na-Na as part of their repertoire, inspiring the album title "Sha-Na-Na Is Here To Stay", and they performed it as Johnny Casino & The Gamblers in the 1978 movie version of "Grease". This comprehensive collection captures the essence of a group who made a small but highly significant contribution to the rock 'n' roll canonDanny & The Juniors emerged as a rock 'n' roll-influenced doo wop group in the mid-50s at their high school in the musical hotbed of Philadelphia, a city which also spawned the likes of Charlie Gracie, Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Freddy Cannon (a guest artist on one track on this collection) and Chubby Checker.
