【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Being a Man【電子書籍】[ Robert Twigger ]

Further adventures in extreme (and not so extreme) sports, from the bestselling author of ANGRY WHITE PYJAMAS.

Having learnt Aikido with the Tokyo riot police (ANGRY WHITE PYJAMAS) and hunted for the world's longest snake in the jungles of the Far East (BIG SNAKE), Robert Twigger now turns his attention to other traditionally male pursuits and pastimes (some of which are fairly close to home, some of which are more extreme), and looks at the questions these raise about masculinity and the role of man in modern society.

BEING A MAN features Twigger participating in, and writing on: the informal rules and thrill seeking of solo climbing, bullfighting in Spain, the 'illicit pleasure of buying my first gun', and the rules of survival with a tribe of Naga headhunters - the sort of activities and pursuits often scorned in the modern, interiorised office-based world.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Foreign News Exploring the World of Foreign Correspondents【電子書籍】[ Ulf Hannerz ]

Foreign News gives us a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look into the practices of the global tribe we call foreign correspondents. Exploring how they work, Ulf Hannerz also compares the ways correspondents and anthropologists report from one part of the world to another.
Hannerz draws on extensive interviews with correspondents in cities as diverse as Jerusalem, Tokyo, and Johannesburg. He shows not only how different story lines evolve in different correspondent beats, but also how the correspondents' home country and personal interests influence the stories they write. Reporting can go well beyond coverage of a specific event, using the news instead to reveal deeper insights into a country or a people to link them to long-term trends or structures of global significance. Ultimately, Hannerz argues that both anthropologists and foreign correspondents can learn from each other in their efforts to educate a public about events and peoples far beyond our homelands.
The result of nearly a decade's worth of work, Foreign News is a provocative study that will appeal to both general readers and those concerned with globalization.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Travels with the Tribe: Killing Gravity in Woke Times【電子書籍】[ Jack Napes ]

Travels with the Tribe is political and social satire. Prospective readers can acquire some understanding of the caliber of the novel by reading the endorsements on the back cover. It should be noted that the people cited there are either fictious or deceased. Julius Caesar, for instance, has not been with us for well over 2,000 years.

The plot iinvolves a time-traveling group of humans, animals, and a leprechaun. Despite the presence of animals, this is not a children's novel. It can be likened to George Orwell's Animal Farm but without the heavy-handed didacticism and with copious amounts of humor.

The novel is in three parts. Part 1: "Sugar and Spice and Everything Lice: The Spitdog's Set Free": The spitdog is not a canine with overactive salivaries: it is a breed of dog once used to turn meat on a spit. Part 1 begins in Ireland and moves to 18th-century England. It is partially set in Crapstone (a real community). The Tribe return to 21st-century Ireland at the end of Part 1.

Part 2: "The Nascent Subversives of Nippon: The Kappa Begin to Carp": The Tribe lands on Grafton Street, Dublin, and are distressed by what they see. They leave for 21st -century Japan, where they encounter a kappa, a Japanese mythological creature, puckish and scatological. Japan is in a similarly appalling state, and after a number of days they leave the country in a manner that has never been done before, which takes them to the United States (circa 2024).

Part 3: "From Belcherville, Texas, to Boring, Oregon, and Beyond: Shining in the Perishing Republic": Belcherville and Boring are actual places. They eventually encounter President Ricktus Rant and his Vice President Monsieur Essence, who is French. They reside in Boring, which is now the capital of the country. The President lives in the Green House, which is an actual greenhouse. The Tribe leave the United States after a trial that takes place at the International Court of Linguistic Convergence, located in Portland, Oregon. Their final desination is Liechtenstein.

What the Story Has to Offer

Engaging characters, including but not limited to the Brownsnout Spookfish (an actual creature), Uncle Rebus (a man who communicates exclusively through rebuses), and the aforementioned leprechaun, named Mr.Ver Dure, to name but a few.

Caustic wit directed at assorted miscreants: International Olympics Committee, Keynesian economists, bread-and-circus-oriented politicians, globalists of all stripes, the Woke, etc.

Brevity, which is an asset in an age when many people do not read and some of those that do have the attention span of a mosquito during the mating season.

Exotic locations: Crapstone, Kappabashi, Belcherville, Bullhead City, Boring, all actual places.

TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ON THE BACK COVER

What PeopleーBoth Living and DeadーAre Saying about Travels with the Tribe

Not for the pea brained or the perennially addled wallflowersーthe Cluck Clucks from the tribe of Chicken Little. 【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The House of Storms Book 6 of the Blue Plane series【電子書籍】[ T. Austin Campbell ]

The System is a universe of alternate realities that captures Outsiders and creates System characters to populate its venues. It challenges its victims to adapt, endure, and survive disparate adventures from benign to evil. Three University of Maryland graduatesーCourtney, Macy, and Devonーget a firsthand look at it as they travel across Canada sightseeing and looking for summer jobs. before starting careers in the US in the Fall. But the world went crazy! The three women entered a Victorian living museum town in eastern Canada, were robbed, and took jobs in the local hotel. They began to suspect they had entered a science fiction movie. Three women detectives, veteran captives of The System, asked the new victims to collaborate in investigating a potential bank robber. They informed the women that they had entered an alternative reality called The System. Courtney became romantically involved with the criminal and remained on the case until she and the detectives were trapped by the robbers in Vancouver. Devon was separated from the others in central Canada and saved three children from a murderous logger who chased them and attacked her in a mortuary. Macy ended up in a fishing village on Hudson Bay where she tried to prevent another System captive from breaking the rules and profiting by selling plans for future inventions. The System created a storm of retribution. Courtney, Macy, and Devon reunited in a broken-down car in Nebraska, entered a carnival to seek help, were plagued and taunted by sinister characters, rescued by a System deus ex machina who whisked them into a Temple (a kind of portal between venues). The three women emerged in gold-rush era central Canada where they joined three System characters, were kidnapped, escaped, rescued from rapids, courted by natives, and almost rescued by townsfolk. The three women awoke in Tokyo as FBI agents partnered with shape-shifters chasing a thief to other planets and through the Dimensions. Then in St. Petersburg they worked as under-cover CIA agents to expose espionage in the consulate. They went to sleep in The House of Storms, current residence of four veterans of The System and awoke in pre-historic Texas where they encountered four very early captives of the System who had gone native. A rival tribe enslaved the group to build a huge city in a desert canyon. They escaped through the navel of the earth through a creation legend. The four veterans from The House of Storms struggled to escape Maoists in northwest China, joining eight Chinese fugitives and traveling overland and by stolen boat, dodging the pursuing People's Liberation Army. Courtney, Devon, Macy, and their boyfriends met up with the four House of Storms residents for dim sum in Hong Kong. The final scene is of the four House of Storms veterans in their new residence overlooking a lava pool in pre-historic Hawaii pondering their mantra: Love is the most important reality. Throughout this book and the entire series, recurrent themes are What is the nature of reality? What is The System? What is its purpose? Fans of such science fiction as Matrix, Quantum Leap, the Prisoner and alternate realities will enjoy the challenges and quandries presented by The House of Storms and other books in the Blue Plane series.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。
