In 1997, New York City, a petty criminal named Alex Voss is about to die via bullet shot right between the eyes by his criminal employer: Boris.

But was he really a petty criminal, or something even stranger? As all roads lead to death, he recounts his tragic life one last time; murder, sex, drugs, rock and roll, losing his mind and failing at being a true hero. There's no escape from his tragic ending. At least, that's how it's meant to play out. As events fail to line up, is Alex's mind breaking the fourth wall, has he finally succumbed to madness, or did a deus ex machina from the future save him from himself? It might just be all three, actually.

?With elements of crime fiction, psychological thriller, action/adventure, and slipstream fiction, LGBT+ gut-punch "INDIGO VOSS" is a genre-defying masterpiece that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Fans of works such as "Mr. Robot" by Sam Esmail, "Memento" by Christopher Nolan, "Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson will love this evocative, character-driven story.

Cary Scott's remarkable life story of spectacular good fortune, mixed with soul-crushing abuse, is frankly unbelievable. Even to Cary himself. In a series of disturbing, unfiltered monologues, Cary unburdens himself of his memories -- of being raised by a psychopathic single mother who was abandoned by her gay husband, of becoming the target of a pedophile, of becoming morbidly obese, followed by quack treatments that boomerang him alarmingly into anorexia. Cary recalls being a bullied gay teenager who literally crucifies himself with a hammer and nails to get out of gym class. From a psych ward, he finds himself instantly famous after an unintentionally homoerotic poem he wrote for a high school assignment finds its way to becoming the #1 pop song in the nation. In the years that follow, Cary's life nosedives again and again, yet he always finds himself rescued by bizarre deus-ex-machina occurrences. All these tales, however, are placed into doubt after his former therapist is accused in the media of implanting false memories in patients. Cary is labeled a pathological liar in a national magazine cover story. Refusing to believe that his exceptional life never actually happened, Cary creates a grotesque, secret, museum to himself filled with artefacts of atrocities and miracles which prove that his memories are true - but is it only a museum of lies?

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Most Interesting Stories of all Nations: American【電子書籍】[ Various Authors ]

The fact is, meanwhile, that, in the riddle story, the detective was an afterthought, or, more accurately, a deus ex machina to make the story go. The riddle had to be unriddled; and who could do it so naturally and readily as a detective? The detective, as Poe saw him, was a means to this end; and it was only afterwards that writers perceived his availability as a character. Lecoq accordingly becomes a figure in fiction, and Sherlock, while he was as yet a novelty, was nearly as attractive as the complications in which he involved himself. Riddle-story writers in general, however, encounter the obvious embarrassment that their detective is obliged to lavish so much attention on the professional services which the exigencies of the tale demand of him, that he has very little leisure to expound his own personal equationーthe rather since the attitude of peering into a millstone is not, of itself, conducive to elucidations of oneself; the professional endowment obscures all the others. We ordinarily find, therefore, our author dismissing the individuality of his detective with a few strong black-chalk outlines, and devoting his main labor upon what he feels the reader will chiefly occupy his own ingenuity with,ー namely, the elaboration of the riddle itself. Reader and writer sit down to a game, as it were, with the odds, of course, altogether on the latter's side,ーapart from the fact that a writer sometimes permits himself a little cheating. It more often happens that the detective appears to be in the writer's pay, and aids the deception by leading the reader off on false scents. Be that as it may, the professional sleuth is in nine cases out of ten a dummy by malice prepense; and it might be plausibly argued that, in the interests of pure art, that is what he ought to be. But genius always finds a way that is better than the rules, and I think it will be found that the very best riddle stories contrive to drive character and riddle side by side, and to make each somehow enhance the effect of the other.ーThe intention of the above paragraph will be more precisely conveyed if I include under the name of detective not only the man from the central office, but also anybody whom the writer may, for ends of his own, consider better qualified for that function. The latter is a professional detective so far as the exigencies of the tale are concerned, and what becomes of him after that nobody need care,ーthere is no longer anything to prevent his becoming, in his own right, the most fascinating of mankind.
