The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet that has gained popularity as a weight loss and health improvement strategy. The diet aims to put the body into a state of ketosis, in which the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. While the keto diet may have potential benefits, such as weight loss and improved blood sugar control, it's important to be aware of the potential risks and drawbacks of this way of eating, including the risk of nutrient deficiencies, the need to follow a strict meal plan, and the potential for negative impacts on athletic performance and mental health. It's also important to note that the keto diet may not be suitable for everyone and should be approached with caution and careful planning. It's important to work with a healthcare professional to ensure that the diet is safe and appropriate for your individual needs and health goals. In THE KETOGENIC DIET book, you will get answers to your question on how keto diet works.

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】The Wellness Trap Break Free from Diet Culture, Disinformation, and Dubious Diagnoses, and Find Your True Well-Being【電子書籍】[ Christy Harrison ]

AS SEEN ON CBS MORNINGS, THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE CUT, AND MORE
SELF MAGAZINE’S #1 WELLNESS BOOK OF 2023
**A NEXT BIG IDEA CLUB MUST-READ BOOK FOR APRIL 2023

A searing critique of modern wellness culture and how it stands in the way of true well-being that "will change the way you think about your healthーin all the best ways.” (Casey** Gueren**)**

“It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle.” You've probably heard this phrase from any number of people in the wellness space. But as Christy Harrison reveals in her latest book, wellness culture promotes a standard of health that is often both unattainable and deeply harmful.

Many people with chronic illness understandably feel dismissed or abandoned by the healthcare system and find solace in alternative medicine, as Harrison once did. Yet the wellness industry promotes practices that often cause even more damage than the conventional approaches they’re meant to replace. From the lack of pre-market safety testing on herbal and dietary supplements, to the unfounded claims made by many wellness influencers and functional-medicine providers, to the social-media algorithms driving users down rabbit holes of wellness mis- and disinformation, it can often feel like no one is looking out for us in the face of the $4.4 trillion global wellness industry.

The Wellness Trap delves into the persistent, systemic problems with that industry, offering insight into its troubling pattern of cultural appropriation and its destructive views on mental health, and shedding light on how a growing distrust of conventional medicine has led ordinary people to turn their backs on science. Weaving together history, memoir, reporting, and practical advice, Harrison illuminates the harms of wellness culture while re-imagining our society’s relationship with well-being.

This book encourages you by sharing others' real-life experiences as you begin your new fat-loss/weight-maintenance lifestyle. Look at the word encourage." It's "en" plus "courage," meaning "put courage in."

Why does starting a new weight loss effort require courage? Is it dangerous? Is it frightening?

The health benefits of losing surplus fat are the opposite of dangerous. However, starting a new fat-loss effort can be truly frightening, because for most, it isn't the first try. Maybe you've tried one or two or forty different ways. Maybe you've tried eat-less-exercise-more without seeing a sustainable loss. Maybe you've read lots of success stories but doubt your dream of similar success can come true. Maybe you've spent thousands of dollars on various plans and programs. Maybe, like Paige, you've tried surgery. Fear of failure with a new fat-loss plan may not be Stephen King frightening, but overcoming the fear takes courage.

That's why Paige, Laurie, and Star are encouraging you with these "results typical" success stories. These accounts describe big successes and little ones. They're real-life accounts from people like you with similar challenges: families, work, budgets and other obligations. They're not Hollywood actors, elite athletes, reality show participants or full-time bodybuilders. They're people sharing their stories because not long ago, they stood where you stand now: highly motivated to lose fat and afraid-yes, afraid-of putting themselves on another path to failure-another waste of time, money, and effort. They want you to know what worked for them and how they dealt with obstacles. They want you to learn from their successes-and mistakes! These stories will help you move ahead with appropriate expectations so you can write your own fat-loss success story. Their common theme? Success with Intermittent Fasting/time-restricted eating (IF/TRE) is common!

Common, but not guaranteed. IF/TRE isn't perfect. Since writing my first book on the subject in 2005, I've been looking for ways to spot the few people for whom it's not going to work. There's still no magic answer, but IF/TRE remains the most powerful and reliable weight-loss tool I've ever seen. Each of the real-life stories Paige, Laurie, and Star have collected in this book offers a reason to have courage-the courage you need to pick up this tool and put your energy and confidence behind it.

Everyone is different, so your success story-and the rewards you appreciate most-will be unique. This book's title speaks to all that can be gained by losing. As you make your way through this book, I invite you to anticipate which reward you will value most. Will it be a gain, such as freedom, power and control over food and appetite? Or a loss-a vanishing health problem, fading work and social bias, or losing a negative self-image? What will your story be?

Foreword

by Dr. Bert Herring: Author of AC: The Power of Appetite Correction

【電子書籍なら、スマホ・パソコンの無料アプリで今すぐ読める!】Decolonizing the Diet Nutrition, Immunity, and the Warning from Early America【電子書籍】[ Gideon Mailer ]

“Decolonizing the Diet” challenges the common claim that native American communities were decimated after 1492 because they lived in “virgin soils” that were distinct from those in the Old World. Comparing the European transition from Paleolithic hunting and gathering with native American subsistence strategies before and after 1492, this book offers a new way of understanding the link between biology, ecology and history. After examining the history and bioarchaeology of ancient Europe, the ancient Near East, ancient native America and Europe during the medieval Black Death, this book sets out to understand the subsequent collision between indigenous peoples and Europeans in North America from 1492 to the present day. Synthesizing the latest work in the science of nutrition, immunity, and evolutionary genetics with cutting edge scholarship on the history of indigenous North America, this book highlights a fundamental model of human demographic destructionーHuman populations have been able to recover from mass epidemics within a century, whatever their genetic heritage. They fail to recover from epidemics when their ability to hunt, gather and farm nutritionally dense plants and animals is diminished by war, colonization and cultural destruction. The history of native America before and after 1492 clearly shows that biological immunity is contingent on historical context, not least in relation to the protection or destruction of long-evolved nutritional building blocks that underlie human immunity.

“Decolonizing the Diet” cautions against assuming that certain communities are more prone to metabolic syndromes and infectious diseases, whether due to genetic differences or a comparative lack of exposure to specific pathogens. This book refocuses our understanding on the ways in which human interventionsーparticularly in food production, nutritional accessibility and ecologyーhave exacerbated demographic decline in the face of disease; both in terms of reduced immunity prior to infection and reduced ability to fight pathogenic invasion.

“Decolonizing the Diet” provides a framework to approach contemporary health dilemmas, both inside and outside native America. Many developed nations now face a medical crisis: so-called “diseases of civilization” have been linked to an evolutionary mismatch between our ancient genetic heritage and our present social, nutritional and ecological environments. The disastrous European intervention in native American life after 1492 brought about a similarーthough of course far more destructiveー mismatch between biological needs and societal context. The curtailment of nutritional diversity is related to declining immunity in the face of infectious disease, to diminishing fertility and to the increasing prevalence of metabolic syndromes such as diabetes. “Decolonizing the Diet” thus intervenes in a series of historical and contemporary debates that now extend beyond native Americaーwhile noting the specific destruction wrought on indigenous nutritional systems after 1492.

During the early 1990s, the diet drugs fen-phen and Redux achieved tremendous popularity. The chemical combination was discovered by chance, marketed with hyperbole, and prescribed to millions. But as the drugs' developer, pharmaceutical giant American Home Products, cashed in on the miracle weight-loss pills, medical researchers revealed that the drugs caused heart valve disease. This scandal was, incredibly, only the beginning of an unbelievable saga of greed.

In Fat Chance, Rick Christman recounts a story that a judicial tribunal later described as "a tale worthy of the pen of Charles Dickens." Bill Gallion, Shirley Cunningham, and Melbourne Mills contrived to bring a class-action lawsuit against American Home Products in Covington, Kentucky. Their hired trial consultant, Mark Modlin, had a bizarre relationship with the presiding judge, Jay Bamberger of Covington, who was once honored as the Kentucky Bar Association's "Judge of the Year." Soon after, Stan Chesley, arguably the most successful trial attorney in the United States, joined the class-action suit. Ultimately, their efforts were rewarded with $200 million for the 431 plaintiffs, and the four lawyers immediately began to plunder their clients' money. When the fraud was discovered, two of the attorneys received long prison sentences and another was acquitted after claiming an alcoholism defense. All four were permanently banished from the practice of law and Judge Bamberger was disbarred and disrobed.

Recounting a dramatic affair that bears conspicuous similarities to opioid-related class-action litigation against the pharmaceutical industry,Christman offers an engaging, if occasionally horrifying, account of one of America's most prominent product liability cases and the settlement's aftermath.
