The distillery was built by AK Mackay in 1820, Port Ellen is a harbourg town on Islay's south coast, After being bought by John Ramsay in 1836, it began exporting its whisky. It was the first Scottish distillery to export its single malt to the United States.The history of the distillery was quite eventful, alternating periods of production and periods of closure until 1983, date of definitive closure, The distillery was equipped in 1973 with a malt house. It is now the only industrial activity maintained on the site. Port Ellen now supplies the other distilleries on the Island of Islay: Lagavulin, Caol Ila, but also Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain, Kilchoman, as well as that of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.70cl/60.5% 1

Château Valandraud 赤ワイン 750ml [AOC］サンテミリオン グランクリュ [評 価］91点 Tasted blind at the Valandraud vertical at the property, the 2006 Valandraud was the first of two vintages that were 100% Merlot (the other being 2007). It was matured in 100% new oak for 21 months. It has a deep garnet core with just a little turbidity. The bouquet is very refined, quite forward for a 2006 with raspberry coulis, crushed strawberry, dried honey and violet scents that unfurl in the glass. That cough candy signature appears only after a few minutes aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe red berry fruit. It is not as concentrated as the 2006 Troplong Mondot poured alongside, but there are plenty of attractive, saline black fruit infused with tobacco and spice box, with just a mellow and harmonious finish. The Ardbeg Distillery was established in 1815 by the MacDouglas family, not far from Lagavulin and Laphroig and close to the 4th century Celtic cross of Kildalton.Ardbeg was run by few proprietors from 1828 to the mid-19th century, Ardbeg’s whisky was in great demand by blenders due to the malts heavily peated character, but during seventy, time sales of blended whisky were declining, a surplus of maturing spirit prompted Ardbeg’s closure on March 25th 1981, a victim of the 1980’s ‘whisky loch’.Ardbeg reopened in 1989 but Ardbeg’s revival began in 1997, when the Ardbeg distillery and whisky stock was purchased by Glenmorangie, they sought to re-establish the Ardbeg brand from the existing maturing old whisky stock.This was distilled in June 1993 and aged for 10 years.
