This is beautifully balanced and has everything it needs for a very long life. There is ample secondary influence to the spicy dried red berry scents that reflect additional notes of soft earth and a whiff of the sauvage. There is both excellent intensity and minerality to the beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors that culminate in a linear, focused and sneaky long finish that is dusty and still a bit austere. This is unlikely to ever be a seductive wine as it's shaped and defined by its acidity but I very much like the depth on offer. For my taste, this has just now arrived at the front end of its prime drinking window though I underscore that it should hold here for at least another decade. The rich, full-bodied and relatively powerful medium weight plus flavors possess a seductive and velvety mouth feel that carries over to the delicious, complex and solidly persistent finale. What surprised me though relative to my initial impression was a seemingly lack of mid-palate concentration and while this is by no means dilute, it certainly didn't appear to have the density that I had originally noted. Aromas of white flower, green apple and wet stone are cut with hints of citrus rind while displaying a hint of secondary character. The rich, pure and stylish medium weight plus flavors possess excellent volume but also wonderful detail and punch while culminating in an intensely mineral-driven finish of superb persistence. As impressive as this is, it hasn't quite developed the complexity that I thought it might when I first reviewed it. With that said, this is still very, very good and while it's knocking on the front door of its peak, it could easily be cellared for another 10 years. The intense, powerful and sleekly muscular big-bodied flavors possess excellent volume and mid-palate concentration before terminating in a long, crisp and very dry finish. There is fine precision to the intense and still tautly muscled medium full flavors that deliver fine if not truly special depth and length on the ever-so-slightly tangy finale. There is fine delineation and plenty of minerality on the utterly delicious middle weight flavors that are perhaps a bit less powerful than one might expect in the context of the vintage on the reasonably well-balanced and gorgeously long finish. I say reasonably well-balanced as there is a hint of warmth but it's not enough to compromise the sense of harmony. This decidedly serious effort is very much still on the way up and while it could be approached now, another 10 to 15 years should certainly return benefits. There is excellent size, weight and energy to the overtly powerful and well-concentrated flavors that exude a fine minerality on the extract rich, clean and attractively dry finish. This is borderline aggressively saline and while it could certainly be enjoyed now, there is at least a few years of upside development remaining. This is textbook Les Clos with size, power and explosive energy and offers a remarkable contrast to the Zen-like Preuses where its harmony and understatement are its primary strengths. The impressively intense and very serious broad-shouldered flavors possess outstanding mid-palate concentration before culminating in a strikingly long and palate staining finish. This stunningly long effort is quite fine by the usual standards of the appellation because while this is certainly muscular, it's taut and sleek rather than robust.
